Welcome To My Nightmare

No, I am not talking about the Alice Cooper song even though the title definitely fits this blog. A few months ago a friend of mine decided to keep what is called a Dream Journal. Every time he had a dream he would write it down as fast as he could upon waking before it faded away. I was kinda enthralled with that idea. I know that I have a lot of memorable dreams (at least those that I remember right?) and I would love to revisit them.

Now I don't believe that dreams have much meaning, if any. I am sure that we can learn about ourselves from our dreams and that dreams can help us get through things but I just think that they have any special meaning or have special tokens. But I do know that if I ever was in a tornado, I would know EXACTLY what to do since I have survived most of the tornadoes that I have dreamt about. Keeping a Dream Journal would be interesting to see the patterns. I know I dream about tornadoes a lot (just last Friday night) but if I kept a journal I would know how frequent they were. My dreams range from the downright scary (just last week I dreamt that I was attacked by the Devil himself) to the absolute cool (I dreamt I was an X-Man!) and to the absurd. And I also die in my dreams, I have been shot, stabbed, crushed and beaten to death in my dreams. Kristy does not like to hear about my dreams.

The other night I had a dream that felt and seemed so real. And it has been a dream that has stuck with me since. I think about it often and it is starting to drive me nuts. I dreamt about someone here in the neighborhood that I am friends with. I don't want to name names here since there is an outside chance he/she might see this and I don't want to embarrass them or creep them out that I had a dream about them.

The dream was normal enough. No flying pigs, tornadoes or anything like that. I had run into them while walking around the neighborhood and they had called me over. I walked over and this person asked a question that caught me off guard in my dream and still rests on my mind.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure. What's up?"
"Why do you care?"
"About what?"
"Why do you care about me?"
I remember that I was taken back and didn't know what to say. I thought about how I knew them and the many times I have served them and how they have served me. But I just didn't know exactly what to say.

Then I woke up.

I don't get why this has bugged me and I certainly don't know why I cannot simply forget about this dream. It has been four days since that dream and I still think about it. I have tried to make sense of this and I have come to a couple of conclusions of why it bugs me.
  1. I think it bugs because this person should know darn well why I care about them. It should be pretty obvious. This person has served my family and I and has been a huge example to all of us. I have told this person many times how much I appreciate them and I look for ways to serve them. They should know that I love them.
  2. It also bugs me that I didn't have a chance to say anything to them when I was dreaming. They asked and I never answered. It was like I failed.
  3. Maybe I don't mean anything to them like they do to me. Maybe I am just off my rocker. I hope that is not the case but there is this small nagging doubt.
So why in the heck would I dream about something like this? And why am I still thinking about it? This is not the first time that a dream has made such an impact on me and stayed with me for days.

All I know is that my next dream better be one of my superhero ones. I don't think I could take another one of these serious drama dreams.

Sunday Confessional: My Hidden Talent

Day 168

I have a hidden talent that only a few people know about. I could make quite a bit of money using this talent if the situation would ever present itself. But sadly it hasn't.

Take a look at this picture and see if you see something out of the ordinary.

Nothing?

I took this picture the moment Kristy and I returned from the hospital with Logan after his birth.

There is something to this picture that has to do with my hidden talent.

Now do you see it?

Yes, that is a stuffed cat posing in the picture with Kristy and Logan.

That is Ernie the Cat.

You see before Logan was born Kristy had a bunch of stuffed cats that she accumulated from birthdays and other holidays.

And I used to make these cats talk much to Kristy's chagrin.

One of the things that I would love to do is voice work for animation/cartoons or do some voiceover work for the media. I don't want to be tooting my horn here but I think I can do quite a variety of voices ranging from old men to Muppet Baby-like voices. I think it would be so much fun to do voice work! Ernie's voice is my favorite one to do.

Kristy would come home from work and Ernie (or one of the other cats) would greet her. And he would talk to her while she was grading homework or watching television. He was a fun cat to have around the house but was eventually replaced. But not by another cat, he was replaced by Logan. Except that Logan has been known to be a cat from time to time.

Now Ernie sits on a shelf in our computer room and has seldomly been seen and rarely heard from. Every once in awhile Ernie will make an appearance and talk but he is old now and bitter. Ernie totally doesn't look to happy to be sitting with his replacement.

Maybe Ernie has just grown up. Or perhaps we have all grown up. While I am saddened that Ernie has been sent to sit on a shelf, I am very happy with his replacement.

And Kristy is thrilled. You might not be able to tell it from this picture here but she really is thrilled.

She has never liked Ernie as much as the other cats. Probably because Ernie was a lot like me.

Pic of the Week: Life with Logan

Day 105

I remember back before we had Logan Kristy and I used to watch VH1's Behind the Music episodes almost every Sunday night. For those that don't know, Behind the Music was a TV show that took a musical artist and we saw their story. How they became a band, what happened to them, what they are doing now and so forth.

I learned two things watching that show. If you belonged in a metal band, someone would die somehow. Seriously, it happened to Def Leppard, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC and you can count Motley Crue since one of the members was actually pronounced dead before somehow coming back to life. The other thing that I learned was how much family meant to these hard rockers. Every single one of them would talk about how much they love their kids and how that was the best part of their life. And I used to think "Are you kidding me?"

I would love to be a rock star and perform in front of huge crowds and tour. They had it all and their kids were the best thing that happened to them? Seriously?

Then Logan came along and suddenly I realized how right they were. I think one of the best things about having a kid of your own is introducing them to things you enjoy. I have tried my hardest in getting Logan to enjoy what I enjoy. For instance, Kristy is not a fan of hamburgers and I love them. She is more of a pizza person. But Logan LOVES cheeseburgers now so I have him on my side when we decide to treat ourselves by going out to eat.

He is willing to pose for my blog and he likes Banshee! (I'll have to explain who Banshee is in a later post)

He is a New York Jets fan! Poor kid, I shouldn't subject him to that!

He is a big Star Wars fan. He loves watching and playing Star Wars.

He was Wolverine for his 1st Halloween. I'll have a separate blog entry for this. I made a movie with him and it was better than Wolverine Origins.

He can be silly when he feels like it.

He loves cats. Sorry dog people and cat haters. We love cats. But we are not fanatical about them though.

He loves to read and loves the comics I have got for him. I cannot wait till he gets a little older so he can really dig the ones I have.

I guess having a kid is a cool thing.

Pics of the Week: Jets, Cats and Soda!

Day 64

Late blog posting tonight. Unfortunately our church services have changed to 1:30 in the afternoon and with the Jets game on later this evening I have not had much of a chance to blog.

But first things first...

Win and we're in! If the Jets beat the Bengals we are in the playoffs.

THE JETS ACTUALLY WON!

I admit it, I am a pessimistic Jets fan. But then I think any Jets fan is pessimistic. But the Jets stormed out and killed the Bengals 37-0 and secured a Wildcard playoff spot!

And while watching the game I discovered a new favorite soda. I got Henry Weinhard's Black Cherry Creme soda in my Christmas stocking and I was saving it for a special occasion. That soda was so awesome. It had a fantastic black cherry flavor that had a hint of creme. It was like my other favorite soda, Stewart's Cherries and Creme but it had a deeper cherry flavor. I gotta go get me some more of that stuff!

One of my fellow bloggers on her blog mentioned that she loved getting funny pictures of cats. I mentioned that I had one that I loved to look at and laugh and I came across it while looking for some other pictures.

I laugh every time I see this cat laughing.
