Thunderstruck

Day 279

While I was at work yesterday there was a big thunderstorm that passed right over our heads. My dad and I usually are listening to movie soundtracks while working and the swamp cooler was on so at first we didn't hear the thunder. I asked my dad if that was thunder and he turned the music down and suddenly

BOOM!

I love thunderstorms. I love to see the flashes of light and the clap of thunder. I sometimes will sit outside and watch nature's fireworks. I know, I know, probably not the safest thing to do but I love doing it anyway. I am such a daredevil!

My dad and I turned off our computers and waited the storm to pass over and we were treated to several more booms of thunder. It reminded me of a funny experience I had with lightning a few years ago.

It was several years ago and Kristy and I were visiting my dad and his family during the summer. A summer thunderstorm popped up and suddenly there was a very loud clap of thunder and my brother Nathan immediately leaped up from his chair and ran to Pauline and hopped in her lap. Nathan was about 12-13 at the time and he is a pretty big kid. Kristy and I looked at each other and started to laugh, thinking that Nathan was just trying to be funny. But he wasn't trying to be funny at all. The thunder really scared him that bad.

He looked like a large scared puppy with his tail firmly tucked between his legs. It was like something out of a cartoon.

Of course whenever I think of this story I am immediately reminded of another time I laughed at Nathan. Kristy and I were over at my dad's and we were all going to go out to dinner to celebrate Kristy's birthday. While we were waiting (I cannot remember what it was we were waiting for) Nathan came around the corner with an empty tube of wrapping paper and preceded to bop Pauline right on the head making this funny sound and it startled her. She looked up at him and was very angry and it didn't help that Nathan had this silly grin plastered across his face. I held in laughter until I thought I was going to pee. It was becoming difficult as I replayed that little scene complete with the cool hollow sound emanating from the empty tube striking Pauline's head. I was so glad and relived that we were leaving as I couldn't hold in the laughter anymore. When I got into the car I just exploded in laughter. Kristy knew exactly what I was laughing about even though I was trying to explain it. We laughed all the way to the restaurant. It felt so good to let it all out.

It's Spring! APRIL FOOL'S!

Day 152

APRILS FOOL'S!!

I had this story that I had concocted last night to tell on the blog as an April Fool's joke but then Mother Nature topped my joke.

Last night while Kristy and I were watching the Jazz game we heard this strange crashing noise right outside. We peered out the window and it looked like something was in our driveway. So we opened the door and we discovered this huge branch that had fallen off our neighbor's large tree. It almost broke the chain link fence and came very close to hitting our car. It blocked our driveway and we thought about moving it but decided to wait till morning so Logan could see it.

We woke up this morning to SIX inches of heavy, heavy snow. So much that we had to shovel it so we could get to the branch and move the car.

I had to look everywhere for my Jets toque since I put it away for winter.

Mother Nature certainly has a wicked sense of humor.
